An electricity-free damp device for a closed house: understanding the ATG option
November 4, 2026Why the bottom of a wall can become damp
Damp above skirting boards often draws attention when paint lifts or plaster begins to crumble. Where moisture rises from the ground through porous masonry, the phenomenon is called rising damp. The visible mark is a starting point for understanding the wall, rather than a reason to cover it immediately with a new decorative finish. The source of moisture matters when choosing a suitable response.
Skirting boards are a finish, not the whole wall
Replacing a damaged skirting board can improve the room, but it does not remove water held in masonry. Brick, stone, mortar and plaster can respond differently to moisture. Salts may also remain visible as the surface changes. Before choosing new paint or joinery, consider the condition of the underlying support and the requirements of the finishing product.
ATE and ATG for rising damp in masonry
Help Humidité offers ATE electromagnetic and ATG geomagnetic devices for walls affected by rising damp. ATE devices require a mains electricity supply; ATG devices operate without an electricity supply. The appropriate reference depends on the building layout, the stated coverage diameter and the installation conditions. A diameter given in metres should not be confused with the total floor area in square metres.
Installation with the supplied instructions
The customer installs the selected device using its manual and the advice provided. Product information helps prepare the location, mounting and power supply where required. Read the instructions for the exact reference rather than combining advice from different models. The ATE and ATG shop provides a practical starting point for comparing the available equipment.
Allow the wall time before decorating
Drying is progressive and depends on the materials, wall thickness and conditions in the property. Fresh paint can hide the old mark without showing the condition throughout the wall. Leaking plumbing and condensation need their own appropriate responses. Read about rising damp, and contact Help Humidité for advice about choosing or installing a device.
